Best Ball Striker

By: Lisa Brown

He was the best ever at hitting a golf ball

Dear Golfer,

Do you know who was considered the best ball striker ever?

He was a Canadian, Moe Norman, and he died in September of 2004
at the age of seventy-five.

Moe was called the Rain Man of Golf because his many
eccentricities sparked rumours that he was autistic.

But…Moe could really hit a golf ball straight.

Two of his peers on the PGA tour, Lee Trevino and Sam Snead,
gave him the title of “the greatest ball striker” of all time.

Ken Venturi called him Pipeline Moe, because everything,
absolutely everything, went down the middle of the pipe.

Moe only played less than two years on the PGA tour.

After that, he just walked away, giving no explanation as to why.

Many people felt Moe walked away because his eccentricities
were a source of talk.

Regardless of why he left, we can still learn from him.

Here are some of his cardinal rules for mental toughness:

1.“Be your own best friend. Have a good attitude. Don’t let the game eat you.”
2.“Golf isn’t supposed to be work. It’s to have fun. So have fun!”
3.“I never get mad at myself. Why? Because getting mad only makes you swing worse.”
4.“Golf is easy people make it hard.”
5.“Practice something that makes you better. Don’t do something that ingrains habits that make you worse.”
6.“When I grip the club, I squeeze blood with my left hand and go easy with the right.”
7.“You are what you think you are”

Until next time,

Your Friend,
Lisa B.
