In the right bag it is a solution.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>The problem it solves\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Two golfers benefit clearly.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>The golfer who cannot control a driver.\u003C\u002Fstrong> A shorter shaft and a smaller head are dramatically easier to centre. You give up some distance and gain a great deal of accuracy — often a net scoring gain on tight courses.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>The golfer who cannot hit a 3-wood off the deck.\u003C\u002Fstrong> A mini driver used mainly from the tee, replacing a 3-wood that only ever gets teed up anyway, frees nothing but changes what that slot can do.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>The problem it does not solve\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>It will not add distance. A mini driver is shorter, heavier and smaller-faced than a driver, and the physics do not favour it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>If your issue is that you do not hit the ball far enough, this is the wrong club.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Where it goes in the bag\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Usually replacing the 3-wood rather than the driver. That gives you driver for wide holes, mini driver for tight ones, and no 3-wood — which most golfers were not using from the fairway anyway.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Some golfers replace the driver entirely. That is a bolder choice and works best on shorter, tighter courses where the extra 15 yards was never worth much.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>It is genuinely playable from the fairway\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Unlike a driver, a mini driver can be hit off the deck by a reasonable player. It sits lower, the face is shallower relative to the head, and the shorter shaft helps.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Do not expect it to be easy. It is easier than a driver from grass and harder than a 5-wood.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Testing it honestly\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Play three or four rounds with it before deciding, and count fairways rather than yards.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>The mini driver’s whole case is that it trades distance for position. That trade only shows up in a scorecard, never on a launch monitor, which is why so many golfers dismiss it in a fitting bay and then love it on a course.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Who should ignore it\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Golfers who drive the ball well. If your driver already finds fairways, adding a shorter, less powerful version of it solves nothing and costs you a slot.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cblockquote>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Buying tip:\u003C\u002Fstrong> Before buying a mini driver, count how many times last season you hit your 3-wood from the fairway and were pleased.
