That is 56° of loft, 10° of bounce, and the S grind.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Most golfers focus on the first number and ignore the other two. The other two decide how the club actually behaves.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Loft\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Set by your gapping, working down from your pitching wedge. Space each wedge roughly 4–6° apart and stop when the highest-lofted wedge is one you can genuinely use.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>A 60° wedge is not compulsory. Plenty of golfers score better with 50\u002F54\u002F58 and nothing above it.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Bounce\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>The angle between the leading edge and the lowest point of the sole. It determines whether the club digs or glides.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Low bounce\u003C\u002Fstrong> suits firm turf, tight lies and shallow swings. It punishes a steep attack.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>Mid bounce\u003C\u002Fstrong> is the safe default across most conditions and most swings. If you are unsure, this is your answer.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>High bounce\u003C\u002Fstrong> suits soft turf, fluffy sand and steep swings. It prevents digging at some cost to versatility on tight lies.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Grind\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>The shaping of the sole, which determines how the club sits when you open the face and how it moves through turf and sand.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Broadly, Vokey’s grinds run from full soles built for maximum bounce and soft conditions, through versatile mid-bounce shapes that suit most golfers, to heavily relieved low-bounce grinds for firm turf and open-face shots.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>A fitter will match a grind to your divot in a few swings. Choosing one from a chart without hitting shots is guesswork.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Choose by divot, not by tour bag\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Take a wedge to grass and hit five shots.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cul>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>Deep divots\u003C\u002Fstrong> — you are steep. Take less.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003Cli>\u003Cstrong>No divot at all\u003C\u002Fstrong> — significantly less bounce, and a relieved grind.\u003C\u002Fli>\n\u003C\u002Ful>\n\u003Cp>That five-minute test outperforms any amount of reading, including this.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Finish is cosmetic\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Tour Chrome, Nickel, Jet Black and Raw look different and, in the case of Raw, wear differently over time. None of them changes how the club plays.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Cp>Do not pay attention to finish until loft, bounce and grind are settled.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\u003Ch3>Grooves wear out\u003C\u002Fh3>\n\u003Cp>Wedge grooves degrade gradually enough that you will not notice it happening.
